There are 7 areas equipped with jungle gyms at school – 3 of which is wheelchair accessible. These play areas aim to improve and develop learners’ perceptual- and motor skills. There are also a wheelchair accessible put-put court at the hostels and a heated pool. Equipped with a hydraulic hoist.
Die skool beskik oor 7 toegeruste speelareas vir leerders waarvan 3 rolstoeltoeganklik is. Hier kan leerders speel-speel hul perseptuele en motoriese vaardighede verbeter. Daar is ook ‘n toeganklike put-putbaan by die koshuise. Die skool beskik ook verder oor ‘n verhitte swembad met ‘n hidroliese hyser.
A fully equipped computer centre gives each learner exposure to computer usage and teach them how to use a keyboard and mouse to gain access to the computer.
There are touch screens, switches, and adapted keyboards available to support learners with physical challenges.
Learners are supported to use the computer at their level of functioning in programs like G-Compris. The higher functioning learners are taught to use the internet, Microsoft Office and Scratch for coding.
The computer curriculum supports CAPS (Curriculum Assessment Policy) in the class room.
Die skool beskik oor ‘n goedtoegeruste rekenaar sentrum. Elke leerder in die skool word die geleentheid gebied om op ‘n rekenaar te kan werk en vaardig te word met ‘n rekenaarmuis en sleutelbord. Vir die fisiek gestremde leerders is daar spesiaal aangepaste “touch-screens”, skakelaars en sleutelborde.
Leerders word op hul vlak van funksionering gehelp met programme soos G-Compris. Van die leerders in die hoër funksionele baan en grade word geleer om die internet en Microsoft Office te bemeester, sowel as Scratch vir kodering.
Die rekenaar kurrikulum ondersteun die KABV (Kurrikulum assesseringsbeleid verklaring) opleiding in die klaskamer.
Ninety percent of the learners are transported daily to and from school by school busses. Carpe Diem has 6 busses and 2 Quantam minibuses, which travel a combined distance of more than 100km daily. The hostel learners are transported every weekend throughout the Southern Cape as far as Plettenberg Bay (The Craggs) and Riversdale. Fuel costs add up to more than R30 000 per month.
All busses are equipped with hydraulic hoists to accommodate wheelchair users. Drivers and bus supporting staff ensure that learners are safe during each trip.
Negentig present van die leerders word met skoolbusse na die skool en huis vervoer. Die skool beskik oor 6 busse en 2 Quantam minibusse, Hierdie busse lê daagliks ‘n gesamentlike afstand van meer as 100km af. Naweke word die koshuisleerders na dorpe so ver as Plettenbergbaai (The Craggs) en Riversdale vervoer.Brandstof kostes beloop meer as R30 000 per maand.
Busse is toegerus met hidroliese hysers om die vervoer van leerders in rolstoele te vergemaklik. Drywers en bushulpe doen diens op die busse om die veiligheid van leerders te verseker.
Each of the 2 hostels, Aristea (Girls) and Lutea (Boys), provides care and accommodation for 42 learners each. The lower level is wheelchair accessible.
The hostels are equipped with hydraulic hoists, hospital bed (where necessary) and other assistive devices to support hostel caregivers in their task.
The hostel supervisors strive to achieve an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness to ensure each learner feels at home.
Hostels are closed over week ends and learners are transported to and from their homes every Friday and Sunday afternoon. Good communication between the school and parents is essential to us. Therefor opportunity is created for a parent’s day, where parents are picked up in their towns and brought to school, thus being able to meet teachers and therapists.
Carpe Diem Skool beskik oor 2 koshuise: Aristea (dogters) en Lutea (seuns). Elke koshuis het plek vir 42 leerders. Die grondvloer van elke koshuis is rolstoel-toeganklik.
Die koshuise is ook toegerus met hidroliese hysers, hospitaalbed (waar nodig) en ander hulpmiddels om die huismoeders se versorgingstaak te vergemaklik.
Die huismoeders streef daarna omin die koshuise ‘n warm, hartelike en huislike atmosfeer te skep.
Leerders word elke Vrydagmiddag terug geneem huistoe en weer Sondag gaan haal. Dit is vir ons belangrik om kontak te hê met leerders se ouers en ouerdae word gereël waar ouers tuis gaan haal word en skooltoe gebring word, om met die multi-dissiplinêre span en klasonderwyser te kan kom gesels oor die vordering van hul kind.
Approximately 190 Learners are provided with a sandwich on a daily basis in the mornings and 120 learners receive a cooked meal at lunch time. This ensures that learners from a struggling socio-economic background receive a nutritional meal every day.
Each semester 20-30 learners are identified who have severe food shortage at home. They are provided with a food hamper (June and December). These hampers are funded by donations or the school itself (Please also see “Adopt a Carpie”)
Carpe Diem Skool voorsien daagliks aan 190 leerders ‘n toebroodjie gedurende die oggend en middagetes aan 120 leerders. Dit beteken leerders wat uit moeilike sosio-ekonomiese omstandighede kom, kan‘n voedsame maaltyd ontvang, voor hul die middag huistoe gaan.
Daar word ook elke semester 20-30 leerders geïdentifiseer waar die grootste voedselnood is.Hulle ontvang ‘n kospakkie skenking (Junie en Desember) Hierdie kospakkies word deur skenkings of die skool self befonds. ( Sien ook “ adopt a Carpie”)
